Diving instructor finds a humpback whale in Ubatuba

Diving instructor Emerson Figueredo saw a humpback whale in Ubatuba, São Paulo, last week.

The whale was close to his boat, and reached for it. The instructor videotaped the animal and was very impressed by its beauty, “I’ve seen other whales, but never a humpback whale. So when I saw it from a distance I decided to come closer. At the time, I was afraid it would be scared and cause a capsizing.

The humpback whale is a species of baleen whale. One of the larger rorqual species, adults range in length from 12–16 m (39–52 ft) and weigh about 36,000 kg (79,000 lb).
